Armstrong Bell’s Senior Network and Telecoms Engineer Makes the Switch to Technical Sales

Armstrong Bell is delighted to announce that Senior Network and Telecoms Engineer, Leon Benson, will be joining the technical sales team at the start of September.

With twenty three years in the telecoms industry, ten of which at Armstrong Bell, Leon boasts a wealth of industry knowledge and is moving over to the sales team to continue his career growth. With a keen interest for sales, he will make a great new addition to team, particularly with his unique insight into the engineering behind telecoms and connectivity solutions.

We sat down with Leon to find out more about why he is making the switch to technical sales and what he enjoys most about working for Armstrong Bell:

Leon BensonTell us about your background:

I have been in the telecoms industry my whole working life. I started data cabling when I was eighteen and then moved on to domestic installs and grew my knowledge from there.

I have been at Armstrong Bell for ten years now, working primarily on the engineering side. During this time, my skill set has grown massively and I am now looking to branch out to a new area of a business to grow my Armstrong Bell knowledge even further.

What prompted the move to technical sales?

Working as a senior engineer at Armstrong Bell has been extremely rewarding, but I wanted a new challenge to push myself and grow my skillset. I wasn’t completely sure what I wanted my next challenge to be, but after a conversation with Head of Sales, Nick Lake, I decided that technical sales is the right career step for me.

I have had some previous experience in technical sales at Armstrong Bell and it was something I really enjoyed, so the move just made sense.

What are you looking forward to most in your new role?

I am really looking forward to the new challenge the role will bring. It will give me the chance to develop my pre-existing skills and knowledge, as well as acquire new skills and industry insight.

It is also great opportunity to see the business from another side and allow me to gain greater insight to all elements of Armstrong Bell. As I am coming from a side of the business where we work with pre-existing clients, I’m interested to see how these client relations are first formed through sales.

What are your long term goals?

My long-term plan is to grow and advance professionally. I would love to reach a senior/managerial role in the Armstrong Bell technical sales department, so watch this space.

What have you enjoyed most about working for Armstrong Bell to date?

What I have enjoyed most about working at Armstrong Bell is meeting some great people, in and outside the company. I have particularly enjoyed seeing the company expand and being a part of that growth.

From when I started, with it being just a handful of people, to now where we have different departments and structures in place. It is a very different company to ten years ago and I look forward to seeing what we look like in another ten years.
