One of my favourite films is Minority Report – others include Life of Brian and Planes, Trains & Automobiles – you like what you like, eh?
Minority Report is a film set in the not too distant future and the technology is captivating. In 2002 it was quite something to see files opened on a computer by swiping them onto the screen. Images being rotated and re-sized using your hand.
You expect that sort of creative thinking of the film industry – it’s perhaps less common that it should be in IT. Our industry is very good at knowing what is possible to do - but not so much in thinking outside of the box and using that technology in new ways.
This week though we had to do just that for a training company that we support. They wanted their classroom trainers to use a tablet while facing the class and to display what was on the tablet on the TV screen behind them, allowing them to draw on or annotate what was displayed.
Now, that is all doable with modern IT, but it needed a bit of creative thinking on our part to put all the components into a solid solution that it is easy to use for the end-user.
